Your library has a card catalogue which is arranged like a dictionary and which lists all books by author, title, and subject. The catalogue will show you a code indicating the book's position on the shelf.

Fiction is shelved alphabetically by the author's last name, while non-fiction is shelved in numerical order by the book's call number.
